Recessed and Under-Cabinet Lighting, on one written scope.
Kitchen and bath lighting set on a proper dimmer, with the clearances a wet location requires.

What’s included on a recessed and under-cabinet lighting visit.
We inspect the cause, check what else it touched, and leave a written scope with materials and timing. The visit is free and there is no obligation to book the work.
What to know before the visit.
Have ready
Clear the counters and the floor below the ceiling so the technician can move a ladder freely, and have a rough idea of where you want light to land rather than just how many fixtures you want. The first three checks are which way the ceiling joists run, the cavity depth available above the ceiling, and whether the circuit has spare capacity. The existing switch and any dimmer are checked too.
- Layout and beam checks
- Wet and damp rated fixtures
- Dimmer matched to the lamps
- Switch and circuit
The visit
A recessed and under-cabinet lighting visit starts by naming the failure, not by selling the fix. We check what the problem touched, protect the floors and the rooms below, and leave a written scope. The work is done in one sequence by the same company, so the trade that caused the damage is the trade that closes it.
What fails first on the Shore is what we look at: salt-rotted fasteners, water finding the soft spot, and the 'quick fix' that never dealt with the cause. For recessed and under-cabinet lighting, the tell is usually visible on the first visit, and we say what it means in plain English.
Permit
Swapping a fixture on an existing circuit normally needs no permit. Adding recessed lights where new cable is run, cutting new openings, or extending a circuit can require an electrical permit and inspection depending on the town, and a new circuit or panel work always does. Towns across Monmouth and Ocean County apply this differently, so the scope is confirmed before anything is cut, and any permit is pulled and the inspection met where one applies.
On the Shore
Shore humidity is hard on fixtures. Steel trim rings, spring clips, and screw shells rust and stain the ceiling around the opening, and moist attic air moves through an unsealed can. Damp and wet location rated housings with gasketed trims are used in baths and over showers, and under-cabinet runs near a sink use sealed, wet-rated strip. Airtight housings limit the humid air that passes through.
When we leave
The technician sweeps the dimmer through its full range and checks for flicker, buzz, or drop-out at the low end, then runs the lights long enough to confirm the lamps warm evenly and the trim sits flush with no light leaking around the edge. Any under-cabinet run is checked for even output along the whole length. The breaker is labeled, and you get a note on the lamp type the dimmer is set for.
Built with
The job uses IC-rated or airtight recessed housings where insulation is present, damp or wet location trims with gaskets, and LED modules matched to the trim. Under-cabinet work uses low-profile LED strip or puck lights with a sealed lens and a listed driver or transformer. A dimmer rated for the lamp load is matched to the fixtures, and cable is run with the correct gauge for the circuit.
How soon can we book this?
Call and we usually get an on-site look scheduled within a day or two, sooner for anything active. Recessed and Under-Cabinet Lighting is booked from the same Ocean Township base.
Do you work weekends?
Yes. Saturday appointments are normal, and emergency repairs are answered 24/7.
Is this licensed work?
Licensed and insured, NJ HIC #13VH09886800. Where the town requires a permit, we pull it.
What if the job turns out bigger?
We stop and show you before we go any further, then quote the additional scope separately.
Will you clean up?
Floor protection, dust control, and haul-away are part of the visit, not an add-on.
Can you match the lights I already have?
Usually yes. The existing fixture is checked for trim size, color temperature, and beam spread, then the new ones are chosen to sit next to it. A close match is possible even when the exact original is no longer made.
Will you cut open my ceiling?
Only where a fixture goes. The layout is marked first and joists are located so the openings land between them. A small hole is normal for running cable, and it is patched or covered by the trim.
Why do my new lights flicker on a dimmer?
Flicker almost always comes from a dimmer that is not compatible with the LED load or from too few watts on the dimmer. The dimmer and lamps are matched as one system, and the low end is set so the lights hold steady.
Are these lights safe over a shower?
Only when the fixture is rated for a wet location and the trim is gasketed. A standard damp-rated can is not enough directly over a shower. The rating is confirmed for each location before anything is installed.
