What to know before the visit.

Have ready

Clear a path to the air handler, whether that is an attic hatch, a closet door, or basement stairs, and keep a couple of feet clear around the outdoor pad. Note which rooms never get comfortable and whether an addition was put on without new ducts. The technician measures the house room by room for the load, checks the existing line set for size, length, and whether it can be reused with the new refrigerant, and reads the disconnect and breaker against the equipment rating. Duct size and return air are settled before any equipment is chosen.

The visit

A ac installation and replacement visit starts by naming the failure, not by selling the fix. We check what the problem touched, protect the floors and the rooms below, and leave a written scope. The work is done in one sequence by the same company, so the trade that caused the damage is the trade that closes it.

What fails first on the Shore is what we look at: salt-rotted fasteners, water finding the soft spot, and the 'quick fix' that never dealt with the cause. For ac installation and replacement, the tell is usually visible on the first visit, and we say what it means in plain English.

Permit

An AC replacement is a permit and inspection job in most New Jersey towns. The electrical connection and the refrigerant circuit are permitted work, and the inspection covers the disconnect, the line set, and the condensate. A like-for-like outdoor swap is sometimes handled as minor work, but the town decides that, not the installer. What does not happen is dropping a new condenser onto an old line set and calling it a replacement.

On the Shore

Salt air is hard on the outdoor unit. Condenser fins are thin aluminum, and at the Shore they pit and lose surface, which shows up as a unit that runs longer every summer. Cabinet screws and fan bearings go next. Coastal installations do better with a coated coil and a pad placed where the unit is not taking direct spray. Indoors the issue is humidity: a Shore house needs moisture removed, not just the number on the thermostat dropped, so sizing and airflow matter more than capacity.

When we leave

Commissioning is the handover. The technician pulls a vacuum on the line set and holds it to prove there is no leak, sets the charge by weight or by subcooling, then runs the system long enough for the pressures to settle. The temperature split across the coil is measured, the condensate drain is filled and flowed, and the heat cycle is run if it is a heat pump. The care note: change the filter on the interval written on the unit and keep the pad clear of leaves.

Built with

The equipment is a matched condenser and air handler or coil, sized to the load rather than to the old label. Line sets are copper and insulated, replaced when the size or the refrigerant does not match. The disconnect is a weather-rated box with the correct breaker, the condensate line is PVC with a trap and a float switch, and the pad is composite or concrete set level. A surge protector at the disconnect is worth having at the Shore.

FAQ

AC Installation and Replacement questions

Have another question? Call (732) 333-7800 anytime.

How soon can we book this?

Call and we usually get an on-site look scheduled within a day or two, sooner for anything active. AC Installation and Replacement is booked from the same Ocean Township base.

Do you work weekends?

Yes. Saturday appointments are normal, and emergency repairs are answered 24/7.

Is this licensed work?

Licensed and insured, NJ HIC #13VH09886800. Where the town requires a permit, we pull it.

What if the job turns out bigger?

We stop and show you before we go any further, then quote the additional scope separately.

Will you clean up?

Floor protection, dust control, and haul-away are part of the visit, not an add-on.

Can you reuse the existing line set?

Sometimes. If the size matches the new equipment, the insulation is intact, and the refrigerant is compatible, it can stay. If it was sized for the old unit or has been open to air, it gets replaced.

Do I need a new air handler too?

Usually yes. A new condenser on an old coil gives a mismatched system that never reaches its rated capacity and can ice. Matched equipment is how the efficiency number and the warranty hold up.

How long does a replacement take?

A straightforward changeout is normally a day. Attic air handlers, new line set runs, or duct changes add time. The system is left running and tested before the technician leaves.

Will a bigger unit cool the house faster?

It will cool quickly and shut off before it removes the humidity, so the house feels clammy. Sizing to the load is what makes a Shore house comfortable, not the size of the box.
