What to know before the visit.

Have ready

Pull the furniture and empty the closets, and get the new boxes inside to sit in the room where they will go. Set aside any plank with a cracked or damaged locking edge instead of cutting it in. Three checks come before the first row goes down. The substrate is identified, since concrete, plywood, and old tile each get different prep. Flatness is measured with a straightedge in several directions. Then the slab or crawlspace gets a moisture check.

The visit

A luxury vinyl plank installation visit starts by naming the failure, not by selling the fix. We check what the problem touched, protect the floors and the rooms below, and leave a written scope. The work is done in one sequence by the same company, so the trade that caused the damage is the trade that closes it.

What fails first on the Shore is what we look at: salt-rotted fasteners, water finding the soft spot, and the 'quick fix' that never dealt with the cause. For luxury vinyl plank installation, the tell is usually visible on the first visit, and we say what it means in plain English.

Permit

Installing luxury vinyl plank over a sound, flat subfloor in New Jersey does not normally require a permit, and no inspection is tied to the flooring itself. If the work includes replacing a water-damaged subfloor or repairing framing, the town may want to be involved. That is checked before the work starts rather than after, so nobody is guessing.

On the Shore

Indoor humidity here swings through the year, and a floating floor moves with it, which is why a gap has to be left at every wall and covered by the baseboard or shoe molding. On a slab or in a basement, ground moisture wicks up through the concrete, so a vapor retarder goes down first. Sand tracked in from the beach works like grit under a floating floor and scuffs the wear layer.

When we leave

The floor is walked diagonally to feel for raised seams and to listen for hollow spots, and planks along the walls are checked to confirm they move slightly rather than being pinned tight. Every transition strip is pressed down and doorways are checked for clearance. Baseboard or shoe is confirmed to cover the expansion gap all the way around. The care note asks for a damp mop rather than a wet one.

Built with

Rigid-core planks with a click-lock edge, in a thickness and wear layer chosen for the room, are standard for kitchens, baths, and basements because the core resists indentation and handles a damp mop. A foam or cork underlayment is used where the plank calls for one, and a poly vapor retarder goes over concrete. Low spots are flattened with self-leveling compound or feather patch, and matching transitions, reducers, and quarter round finish the edges.

FAQ

Luxury Vinyl Plank Installation questions

Have another question? Call (732) 333-7800 anytime.

How soon can we book this?

Call and we usually get an on-site look scheduled within a day or two, sooner for anything active. Luxury Vinyl Plank Installation is booked from the same Ocean Township base.

Do you work weekends?

Yes. Saturday appointments are normal, and emergency repairs are answered 24/7.

Is this licensed work?

Licensed and insured, NJ HIC #13VH09886800. Where the town requires a permit, we pull it.

What if the job turns out bigger?

We stop and show you before we go any further, then quote the additional scope separately.

Will you clean up?

Floor protection, dust control, and haul-away are part of the visit, not an add-on.

Is vinyl plank actually waterproof?

The plank handles water, and a spilled glass or a damp mop will not ruin it. Water that slips through a seam can still be trapped against the slab, which is where a smell starts.

Can it go over my old tile?

It often can if the tile is well bonded, the grout lines are filled and leveled, and the surface is flat to the tolerance the plank calls for. Loose or hollow tile comes out first. The old floor still has to be clean and dry.

Will the floor feel hollow when we walk on it?

A floating floor over a flat substrate sounds solid, and a hollow sound usually means a low spot or a plank that is not fully engaged. That is caught during the walk-through. Underlayment choice affects how it sounds too.

Do I need to keep extra planks?

Keep at least a box or a few planks from the same run, because a later color change will not match. A closet floor is a good place if they stay flat and dry. Extras make a damaged plank a small repair.
