What to know before the visit.

Have ready

Clear the ground and the beds along the wall, and move anything stored against the house, because the panels need room to be worked. If you know which storm or which wind direction pulled the section loose, say so, since it points at the wall that takes the driven rain. The technician checks the panel locks and the nailing hem first, then the housewrap and sheathing behind the opened panel, then the expansion gap at the J-channel and corner post.

The visit

A vinyl siding repair visit starts by naming the failure, not by selling the fix. We check what the problem touched, protect the floors and the rooms below, and leave a written scope. The work is done in one sequence by the same company, so the trade that caused the damage is the trade that closes it.

What fails first on the Shore is what we look at: salt-rotted fasteners, water finding the soft spot, and the 'quick fix' that never dealt with the cause. For vinyl siding repair, the tell is usually visible on the first visit, and we say what it means in plain English.

Permit

Replacing a few damaged vinyl panels in kind is repair work and normally does not require a building permit in New Jersey. A full re-side of the house is a different job and generally does require one, along with a look at any change in the wall covering. For a repair that puts the wall back the way it was, the permit question usually does not come up.

On the Shore

Coastal sun and salt air leave vinyl chalky and brittle over the years, so a panel that takes an impact tends to crack rather than flex. Vinyl also moves a great deal with temperature, expanding in the sun and shrinking in the cold. Nailed tight instead of hung in the slot, that movement has nowhere to go, and the panel buckles or pulls loose. Wind-driven rain off the ocean also gets behind the face, which is what the wrap behind it is for.

When we leave

Before leaving, the technician locks the panels by hand and gives each one a light pull to confirm the lock is engaged, checks that the window or door beside the repair still opens and closes freely, and looks behind the wall for any sign that water has been getting in. A hose test at the top of the repair shows whether water runs out at the bottom instead of into the wall. Panels may creak in direct sun, which is normal.

Built with

Panels are matched by profile, such as Dutch lap, clapboard, or board and batten, along with the color and the grain. The trim parts matter as much as the panel: J-channel, undersill trim, corner post, and utility trim, all sized so the panel can float. Fasteners are corrosion-resistant nails set loose in the center of the nailing slot. Housewrap tape and flashing repair whatever the old panel was hiding.

FAQ

Vinyl Siding Repair questions

Have another question? Call (732) 333-7800 anytime.

How soon can we book this?

Call and we usually get an on-site look scheduled within a day or two, sooner for anything active. Vinyl Siding Repair is booked from the same Ocean Township base.

Do you work weekends?

Yes. Saturday appointments are normal, and emergency repairs are answered 24/7.

Is this licensed work?

Licensed and insured, NJ HIC #13VH09886800. Where the town requires a permit, we pull it.

What if the job turns out bigger?

We stop and show you before we go any further, then quote the additional scope separately.

Will you clean up?

Floor protection, dust control, and haul-away are part of the visit, not an add-on.

Can you match our siding after all these years?

Profile and color are matched as closely as current runs allow, and you will see the sample held against the wall in daylight before it goes on. Fading on the existing wall is the usual difference. On a shaded or side wall the mismatch is far less noticeable.

Did water get behind the wall?

That is the reason the section gets opened rather than snapping a panel back over it. If the wrap behind the panel is torn or the sheathing is soft, you will see it and hear about it before anything is closed up. A tear gets taped while it is open.

Do you nail the panels tight so they stop flapping?

No. Vinyl has to hang in the slot so it can expand and contract. Nailing it tight is what causes buckling and cracking. The panel is locked to the one above and below, and the nail sits centered in the slot so the panel can slide.

Can you repair a section on an upper floor?

Yes, with the right access. How the wall is set up and how to reach the repair safely gets looked at first, and the approach is confirmed before anything starts. Working from the ground where possible keeps the repair simpler and disturbs less of the wall.
