Gutter Repair and Cleaning, on one written scope.
Clean, re-pitch, and stop the waterfall at the corner.

What’s included on a gutter repair and cleaning visit.
We inspect the cause, check what else it touched, and leave a written scope with materials and timing. The visit is free and there is no obligation to book the work.
What to know before the visit.
Have ready
Have the area under the run clear and tell the technician about any loose or missing siding above it. Note where water overflows during a hard rain, and which corner or downspout it is. On arrival the technician checks three things before anything is touched. First, the debris load and whether the trough is full of shingle grit, which means the roof is shedding. Second, the fall of the gutter along the whole run. Third, the fascia board behind each hanger, because a fastener that lost its grip in punky wood explains the overflow.

- Hangers
- Pitch
- Downspout extensions
The visit
Cleaning without resetting pitch just makes a cleaner pond. We pull debris, check hangers, and restore fall toward the downspout. Extensions get the water away from the foundation, not into the bed against the wall.
Overflow at one inside corner on a two-story colonial is usually a hanger that pulled out of soft fascia, so that section sits high. The cleaning is the small part. The fascia and the hanger are the repair.
Permit
Downspout and trough work is treated as building maintenance, so a town does not issue a permit for it and no inspector comes out. The scope that changes the answer is drainage. If a downspout is going to tie into a municipal storm line, or the run sits inside a right-of-way strip, ask the town what it allows there. Rot behind the gutter is trim carpentry. Neither scope adds an inspection.
On the Shore
Salt spray pits the aluminum and corrodes the fasteners holding the hangers long before the gutter itself fails. Freeze-thaw is the second problem: water left standing in a back-pitched trough freezes, expands, and pushes the joints apart, and the ice load pulls the run away from the fascia. That is why hangers are spaced closer on a shore house and why the fall has to be right, not close. Larger downspouts move more water off the roof during a coastal storm.
When we leave
Each run is tested with a hose at the high end, and the technician watches the water travel to the outlet rather than ponding in the trough. Every downspout is confirmed to discharge onto a splash block or an extension that carries water clear of the wall, not into a planting bed. Joints are checked dry, then wet. The care note is to keep the extensions in place and to have the run checked after a heavy leaf drop. Guards only go on once the pitch is corrected.
Built with
The parts are aluminum or copper gutter sections and hangers, stainless or coated screws so the fastener does not rot out of the fascia, gutter sealant for the end caps and outlets, and metal or vinyl downspout extensions. Aluminum is the common replacement because it will not rust and it matches most existing runs. Hangers are the hidden material that decides the job. The technician will not mix metals where they touch, because that is where corrosion starts first.
Do you clean from the roof?
When the roof can be walked. We do not stand in the gutter.
Guards?
After the pitch is correct. Guards on a back-pitched gutter hide the problem until the fascia rots.
How often on a wooded lot in Holmdel?
At least in late fall, after the leaves, and in spring if the pines drop. We will not sell you a monthly plan.
A downspout that dumps on the walk?
We redirect it. Ice on the walk is a gutter problem with a leg injury attached.
Do you seal leaking joints?
On a sound gutter, yes. A gutter with holes in the trough gets a section replaced, not a tube of sealant.
Two-story with no access on one side?
We say so if a ladder cannot stand. Some runs need a lift, and that is a different scope than a walk-up ranch.
Can you repair a run without replacing the whole gutter?
Often yes. If the trough is sound and the fall is wrong, re-pitching and new hangers fix it. A section with holes or a split seam gets cut out and replaced with the same profile.
Why does only one corner overflow?
That corner is usually the high spot or the closest point to a clog. A hanger that pulled loose lifts the gutter, so water sits there until it spills over the front instead of running to the outlet.
Do you need to get on the roof?
Sometimes, when the pitch has to be checked from above or the roof can be walked safely. Otherwise the work is done from a ladder at the gutter line. If no ladder can be set safely, that gets said before the visit.
How do you keep water out of the basement?
The downspout has to discharge well away from the wall. Extensions or a buried line move the water to a grade that slopes off. A splash block right at the foundation just returns the water to the same spot.
