Interior Trim and Door Painting, on one written scope.
Base, casing, doors, and shutters painted with the hardware off and the brush marks gone.

What’s included on an interior trim and door painting visit.
We inspect the cause, check what else it touched, and leave a written scope with materials and timing. The visit is free and there is no obligation to book the work.
What to know before the visit.
Have ready
Clear the floors along the walls and empty the closets so the doors can swing while they are worked. Take down window treatments and switch plates; door hardware comes off before sanding. Three checks come before a door is lifted. Each door is closed and opened to see whether it rubs the jamb or latches cleanly, since paint will not fix alignment. The trim is tapped along its length to find sections that have pulled away from the wall. Then the existing finish is read, because old paint has filled the joints and blunted the profile.
- Remove the hardware
- Sand and prime
- Trim enamel
- Rehang the doors
The visit
A interior trim and door painting visit starts by naming the failure, not by selling the fix. We check what the problem touched, protect the floors and the rooms below, and leave a written scope. The work is done in one sequence by the same company, so the trade that caused the damage is the trade that closes it.
What fails first on the Shore is what we look at: salt-rotted fasteners, water finding the soft spot, and the 'quick fix' that never dealt with the cause. For interior trim and door painting, the tell is usually visible on the first visit, and we say what it means in plain English.
Permit
Painting interior trim and doors does not require a permit in New Jersey, and no inspection applies. If a door is rehung and the rough opening is changed, or a wall is opened to fix framing around it, the town is asked before anything structural is touched. Replacing a door slab in the existing frame is carpentry, not permitted work.
On the Shore
Interior wood here moves with the seasons, so the joints between trim and wall open slightly each winter and close in the damp summer. Salt air reaches trim on screened porches and through open windows, leaving a film that keeps paint from bonding, so those surfaces get washed rather than scuffed. On an exterior door, the bottom and the side edges show moisture first, which is why they get sealed after fitting.
When we leave
Every door is swung through its full arc and latched to confirm it clears the jamb and holds in the strike. Painted drawers and cabinet fronts are opened and closed. The film along each door edge is checked for bridging over the hinges and for sags at the bottom rail, and anything found is cut back before hardware goes on. You get a care note to handle doors by the edges for the first few days.
Built with
Trim and doors take a waterborne alkyd or acrylic trim enamel that levels out and dries hard enough to resist handling, rather than a wall paint that stays soft. A bonding primer goes over glossy or varnished surfaces, and a shellac-based primer goes where knots might bleed through. Paintable caulk fills the trim-to-wall seam, wood filler fills nail holes, and hardware is bagged and labeled so it returns to the same door.
How soon can we book this?
Call and we usually get an on-site look scheduled within a day or two, sooner for anything active. Interior Trim and Door Painting is booked from the same Ocean Township base.
Do you work weekends?
Yes. Saturday appointments are normal, and emergency repairs are answered 24/7.
Is this licensed work?
Licensed and insured, NJ HIC #13VH09886800. Where the town requires a permit, we pull it.
What if the job turns out bigger?
We stop and show you before we go any further, then quote the additional scope separately.
Will you clean up?
Floor protection, dust control, and haul-away are part of the visit, not an add-on.
Do the doors have to come off the hinges?
Doors are taken off for a clean edge and a full coat on the top and bottom, which is where moisture gets in. Hinges and latches come off first and are labeled. A door that cannot be removed can be painted in place.
Can you paint over dark trim with a light color?
Yes, but it takes a bonding primer and usually an extra coat, because the old color keeps showing through, especially at the edges and in the profile. Grey and red tones cover slowest. That extra coat is part of the scope.
Is caulking the trim line necessary?
It closes the gap where trim meets the wall, which is where you see a shadow line. It also keeps the paint edge from cracking. The caulk is paintable, so the finish coat covers it.
Should I keep the house warm while the doors dry?
Warm, dry air helps enamel harden, so keep the rooms at a normal living temperature. Cool damp air slows the cure and leaves the finish easy to mark. Do not point a fan at a fresh door.
